Pacifiers, Part 2

Almost a year ago, I wrote about trying to take Luke's pacifier away. Well, true to my word, we haven't tried again since then. We haven't bought anymore, but miraculously, they have continually appeared in our house. I would think we were down to the last one, and Luke would show up sucking the most ridiculous looking, tiny baby pacifier. How he could even hold on to them with his mouth I'll never know. Anyway, we've finally exhausted our supply of pacifiers and he's down to the last one.

While he's been sick I have been letting him take it with us in the car on the way to the store, the doctor, etc. and just making him take it out when we go inside. I'm sorry he's felt so bad, but I mean, I don't want people to know my three year old still has a passy. Seriously, the other day he said, "Mama, can I just take one more suck before I put it in my bed?" That's out of control. And it doesn't help that he looks like he's at least four, so it seems even more crazy than it really is. So, when we couldn't find his pacifier after a trip to the store, I thought for sure it had fallen out of the car and we were done forever. Alas, two days later, after successfully sleeping and napping without the pacifier, he sniffed it out. We had just left it in the chair in the garage.

Oh well, at least we know it can be done. I guess we'll just wait for this last one to bite the dust and then maybe we'll be done with this oral fixation forever.

Oh my gosh, Asher's had a pacifier fixations since day 1! We thought he would only need it for a few months, but now I'm starting to think otherwise! They really are a lifesaver right now!

Yeah - Hannah would go around with one in her mouth, and one in each hand. I think we gave hers to Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny.

Lauren is my headstrong child. One day she kept dropping on the floor and the dog would get it. I look straight at her and told her if she dropped it again, I'd just let the dog have it. Well I guess she wanted to test me...she looked straight back at me and threw it down (not just a mere "oops I dropped it" - she hurled it!) Needless to say, the dog had a new toy. Do you know that Lauren didn't even shed a tear. I guess she figured her difiance was worth it...

Joseph had one until K-4!! Enough said.

I'll add my passy stories. Our Chance threw wouldn't take a passy after a few months. But he started sucking his thumb at like...age 4 and we ended up doing that paint the fingernail with yucky stuff thing.

Anyway, both girls were obsessed with their passies. Like Hannah, Rach would not sleep at night unless she had one in her mouth and one in both hands to click together! At 2 1/2 with both girls, we went on vacations and OOPS left the passies. With Abi, it was to Disney and almost ruined the trip. But it worked..and yes, I had passies in a hidden pocket the whole time just in case. Don't worry, he won't be walking down the aisle to meet his bride with a passy, I'm sure.
