Lunchtime Laughter

Yesterday at lunch, in the span of five minutes, I had these two converstions:

Luke: "Mom, so, did you live like the Pilgrims did?  You know, churning butter and making all your own stuff?"
Me: "Umm...how old do you think I am?  Go ask Grandma and Papa that question.  They're way older than I am." :)

And then,

Eli: "Mom!  You're a cow!  You have milk in your body!" (With a pointed glance at my chest area.)
Me: Speechless

A Day In the Life

"What have you been up to lately?" I get asked that question a lot.

"What did you do today?"  I get asked that question a lot by my husband. (Yes, I love it as much as you do.)

Well, the answer to both those questions is this:
Keeping up with this kid.

Looks sweet and innocent, right?  He is, he is. What he is not, is ready to be left unattended for more than five seconds.  I know this, and I still forget that he is not as trustworthy yet as his big brothers.  Today, I made phone calls to two different companies to determine if the pills he had climbed to the very top shelf to get into would kill him or just make me have a panic attack.  Both of them were just herbal, so all was well after he threw up into the trash can.  He didn't have enough intestinal distress for my liking.  I was kind of hoping it would at least make him miserable enough for him to learn a lesson, but I almost think he thought it was fun.  Sigh.

After my shower, I came out to find that my sweet youngest had decided to help Mama cook. He was so very proud of himself. (Notice the hands on his hips.)

I started the potatoes for him before I left for my shower and he added his imaginative touch.  I had planned on using the mushrooms, just not in that exact way.

Really, who needs adult help for things like knives and getting things out of high cabinets?

In the end, the only damage done was the mess on the floor and the liquid I had to drain off the potatoes.  I'm 99% sure it was just olive oil.  They tasted okay anyway.

Whew!  I'm going to bed!

I've posted before that Luke and Eli often end up in strange positions while they're sleeping. Last night did not disappoint.  Kris said he went in there because he heard someone pass gas so loud he thought they were still awake.  I shudder to think which one of them did the passing...

We all got a great laugh out of this when Kris showed us the pictures this morning.  Even Eli.  While Luke and I would have both been embarrassed, Eli's always up for being the butt of a great joke.  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

Happy Wednesday!

Pumpkin Patch 2012 Outtakes

One thing I can always count on when it comes to taking pictures with my family is humorous outtakes.  The ladies working the pumpkin patch got a good kick out of watching us.

Share in the fun.

"What?"
"Seriously?!"
(His favorite word. When did six year olds get so sassy?)
"I'm way too cool for this."

Sigh. No caption needed here.

They really tried to cooperate here, putting their arms around each others shoulders so sweetly.

This is a typical example of our home.
I'm giving them the business.
Directing.
Bossing.
Kris is having fun.
Typical.

My New Boots

I hope I look half as cute when I wear them.

Our Youngest

This child is so ridiculous sometimes, we all just sit around laughing at him.  And he loves it.  Getting people to laugh at him is exactly what he's going for.

While I never want to encourage my children to put their food on their head and smear peanut butter and jelly in their hair, when it's already been done numerous times before I realize it, taking pictures of my children's hidden talents is the only obvious response.

 "Are you watchin'?"
Once he achieves his goal of full attention, he quickly tires of the fame.
"Mama, no!!"
Notice the lips.  That's him saying, "No pituuuuuuurrr (picture)!"

If Alicia Silverstone Can Do It, Why Not Me?

Thank God for celebrities who love to post about their strange habits on the Internet.  They give us the liberty to do the same.

This is a note to self to not attempt making or accomplishing anything while in a hurry, including Rice Krispie Treats.  I was trying to pack up and get out the door for the weekend and dumped the mix onto my shirt and the floor rather than into the waiting dish.  Thankfully, the boys were around to help clean up.  They were like hungry vultures on a dead carcase.  And I let them.

My favorite parts were when Judah actually starting licking my shirt and when Eli yelled, "Hey, Luke! Come on! Let's eat!"

The Munchies

Can you spot on my grocery list what Luke wants me to get when I go to the store?

In Training

We like to make sure the boys aren't putting on too much weight, so we make them get in the gym at least three times a week.  You know, the basics.

Shoulder presses

Curls

Pull ups

Push through the pain, Eli!

Punching bag.
(Yes, even Judah has to do it.  You can never start 'em too early.)

Being cute does not get you off the hook.

Being too short is not a valid excuse, either.

And, see?  It's paying off.  Look at those muscles.

When they start looking like they might give themselves a hernia, we know they're really working hard.

For anyone that doesn't know, I'm totally joking. This is just what I found the other night when all the boys disappeared into the garage to "work out" with Kris.  And, as a disclaimer, we did not pay money for the zebra rug.  It was a "treasure" from Kris' dad.

Out of the Mouth of Babes

I'm thinking the Garfield movie is going to have to find its way to the trash can since this morning as we were pulling into his school I heard Eli in the backseat saying, "Damn cat allergies."

On a less horrifying note, yesterday when we were at the grocery store, Eli jumped on the scale to weigh himself.  Our conversation made me laugh.

Eli: "Hmm...41 pounds.  I used to be 40, but now I'm 41.  I guess I got older."
Me (with a barely straight face): "Um, you mean heavier."
Eli: "Yeah, heavier.  It must be because I've been working out."

His daddy was so proud of his man talk.

Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This

I can't remember why he woke up so miserable this day, but boy was he unhappy!

Mama taking pictures of his crazy hair probably didn't help.

And his mood went from bad to worse.

But a good snack helps everything.

You Might Be Behind On Laundry If...

...You find yourself dressing off the growing pile of clothes on the chair in your room.

...Your husband has to walk through the house naked after showering to find clean underwear.  Every morning.

...Your middle child has been asking about the same shirt almost every day since you got back from Thanksgiving break and you keep answering, "I think it's in the wash."

And the saddest way you know you might be behind on laundry is if...

...Your oldest child comes home with a picture he drew at school of the family decorating the Christmas tree, and the dining room table included in the drawing holds the ten loads of clean laundry that still needs to be folded.

For a Good Mommy Laugh

You know how you get on the computer to "check your blog real quick" and thirty minutes later realize that you've been sucked into a infinite, black vortex of links to peoples blogs that you've never heard of and will never meet?  You know, it's the same reason I don't allow myself to get on Facebook unless I have at least an hour of my life that I'm okay with never getting back because I know good and well I will end up gawking at the pictures people should have never had the nerve to put on their wall in the first place.  Well, I did that today.  The vortex of links, that is.  But I got a good laugh out of what I found and thought I would share.
