Make that seven colds in the last three weeks. Eli and I both have colds number 2. The bright side is that I am so used to being congested, having never fully recovered from the original cold, that it's really not bugging me all that much. Eli and Luke's booger noses are just par for the course as well. Sigh.
A side note: the final passy died, so Luke is passy free forever!
It all started with the lady I tutored calling her son her treasure. I thought that was neat so I started telling my oldest son that he was my treasure. When I said it to him, he whispered, "Treasure", as if I was telling him a secret. My babies, all four of them, are my treasure.

Pacifiers, Part 2
Almost a year ago, I wrote about trying to take Luke's pacifier away. Well, true to my word, we haven't tried again since then. We haven't bought anymore, but miraculously, they have continually appeared in our house. I would think we were down to the last one, and Luke would show up sucking the most ridiculous looking, tiny baby pacifier. How he could even hold on to them with his mouth I'll never know. Anyway, we've finally exhausted our supply of pacifiers and he's down to the last one.
While he's been sick I have been letting him take it with us in the car on the way to the store, the doctor, etc. and just making him take it out when we go inside. I'm sorry he's felt so bad, but I mean, I don't want people to know my three year old still has a passy. Seriously, the other day he said, "Mama, can I just take one more suck before I put it in my bed?" That's out of control. And it doesn't help that he looks like he's at least four, so it seems even more crazy than it really is. So, when we couldn't find his pacifier after a trip to the store, I thought for sure it had fallen out of the car and we were done forever. Alas, two days later, after successfully sleeping and napping without the pacifier, he sniffed it out. We had just left it in the chair in the garage.
Oh well, at least we know it can be done. I guess we'll just wait for this last one to bite the dust and then maybe we'll be done with this oral fixation forever.

Pacifiers, Apparently God's Gift To Luke
So, we decided that we would take Luke's pacifier away. He's only had it during naps and at night for the past five months or so, so it really wasn't that big of a deal. EXCEPT...he started waking up about an hour earlier than normal in the morning and from his naps. Now THAT is a big deal. After not having it for three days, he wasn't even asking for it when we put him in the bed. He would say, "Pappy, gone-gone." We would say, "Yep, it's all gone" and that would be the end of it. As much as it pained me to give it back to him last night, I was too desperate for him to sleep longer not to at least try. Drum roll please...he slept until almost eight this morning. I have it on good authority that children usually give up their pacifiers before they go to college. Well, he'll have to do it all on his own because I'm not taking that little boy's pappy away again.
